Is Your Bladder Keeping You Up?

Nighttime urination is a common occurrence for many individuals, as the body's mechanisms often lead to increased urine production during the night especially as we age.

Nighttime urination is called Nocturia and is waking up to urinate during the night. It may lead to fatigue and impact quality of life. Common causes are age, excessive evening fluid intake, certain medications, or medical issues such as urinary tract infections or enlarged prostate. Common ways to manage it include reducing liquid intake before bedtime, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, and consulting a healthcare provider for any medical worries.

From an Oriental medicine perspective, this issue arises due to the weakness of Kidney Ki. In this medical perspective, the Kidneys and Urinary Bladder are regarded as Yin Yang partners, closely influencing each other's well-being. If the Kidney Ki is lacking in strength, the Urinary Bladder's capacity to retain its stored fluids is similarly compromised.

In my vast experience, I have consistently observed that this particular condition shows remarkable improvement when treated with a combination of acupuncture and moxibustion. When addressed effectively, it has the potential to significantly enhance an individual's quality of life by addressing the root causes comprehensively.

It is essential to monitor nighttime pee frequency and consult with a healthcare provider if it becomes a persistent issue, as it could be a sign of an underlying health concern that needs to be addressed.
