Brain Fog and Acupuncture

Acupuncture for Clarity

Some people call it brain fog, others refer to it as having your head stuffed full of cotton wool. Either way you cant think clearly, you feel numb, its not all that nice.

Understanding Brain Fog

There can be a few reasons why people develop this syndrome, but its almost always related to one’s Digestion and a state of Internal Dampness. Your stomach and your head are not that separate, there are many factors connecting the two organs. When there has been damage to the digestive process by either bad foods, or due to overwork, over thinking or over taxation of the mind; the result is the same, instead of the Spleen Ki directing the supposedly clear, pure Gu Qi upwards to the heart and head, a turbid and damp Gu Qi is sent upwards instead. It is the presence of this turbid Ki, or bad Gu Qi, that creates Brain Fog. Normally in a healthy person, this particular Ki is used for clear thinking in the head and the production of Blood Ki in the heart.

Phlegm and Damp

Its the presence of excessive mucus described as Phlegm or Dampness that is the cause of this Brain Fog. Dampness and Phlegm, as described in Oriental Medicine as causes for illness, can bring about many other problems for people including weight gain and nausea to name but two. Treatment for Brain Fog is possible, clarity can return quite quickly however if Dampness has been exposed to heat and turned to Phlegm, then chronic conditions can take longer to resolve.

Kotan Acupuncture Clinic, located in Lygon Street Brunswick East, has many years of experience treating this condition and helping with the right dietary advice on stopping it from recurring. Because this trouble is connected to digestion, it is best to avoid cold or raw foods until you are back to full strength. This is a very important piece of advice.
